John Gonzalez, MLive statewide entertainment reporter, is leading a search for Michigan’s Best Steakhouse, and that search will bring him to Ann Arbor on Tuesday to visit the two top poll winners in the Ann Arbor News readers’ poll.
Garnering a whopping 50 percent of the vote, Knight’s Steakhouse was the clear winner of the readers’ poll, with The Chop House earning a healthy 28 percent.
“If you take into account the quality of the meat, the strength of the drinks and the consistent high level of service due to the same staff there for years who know you by name… Knights wins this running away,” said commenter Gary Jordan.
The Chop House brought the classic sophisticated white tablecloth steakhouse concept to Main Street Ann Arbor when it was opened by Mainstreet Ventures in the mid-1990s. Wet-aged USDA prime steaks are the hallmark of the Chop House, as is seafood flown in daily from Foley in Boston.
John Gonzalez and I, along with a few of our hungry MLive and Ann Arbor News colleagues, will be visiting both The Chop House and Knight’s on Tuesday. The Chop House will be our first stop, at 4:30 p.m., followed by Knight’s at 6 p.m. You can follow our adventures on social media with the hashtag #mibeststeak.
Gonzo is criss-crossing the state, visiting poll winners across the regions, looking for the steakhouse that serves up the best steaks and overall dining experience. Winners will be announced Oct. 1.
