PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – State officials have found three credit card skimmers at gas stations near Ann Arbor and Jackson this week.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on Wednesday, Aug. 10 located a skimmer at the Sunoco Station at 5511 W. Michigan Ave in Pittsfield Township, just southeast of Ann Arbor.
A day earlier, inspectors discovered a skimmer at Auto City Clark, 9885 N. Main St. in Northfield Township, and one at a pump at a Marathon Gas Station, 4400 Clear Lake Road, in Grass Lake, west of Ann Arbor.
Credit card skimmers, which thieves most commonly install at gas station pumps, collect credit card information, including numbers, names and expiration dates.
Thieves then copy that information onto other cards with magnetic strips and use them, according to law enforcement officials.
